Understanding Wheel Aesthetics

Providing Proper Care For Your Forklift Tires

If you maintain a supply of excess inventory in your warehouse, then having access to a forklift can be a great way to transport pallets loaded with product from one location to another. Although a forklift can be a valuable asset, this pieces of equipment can become a safety hazard when not cared for properly.

Providing proper care for your forklift's tires and other material handling products is essential when it comes to ensuring the safety and performance of your forklift. Here are three simple things that you can do to keep your forklift tires in good condition well into the future.

1. Monitor ground conditions within your warehouse.

One of the easiest things that you can do to keep your forklift tires in good condition is to ensure that they are not driving over any objects that could cause them damage while the forklift maneuvers throughout your warehouse.

Take the time to routinely check the ground inside your warehouse for sharp objects, cement cracks, or other hazards that could compromise the integrity of your tires. If you need a more rugged tire to handle your warehouse conditions, invest in full-rubber tires for your forklift rather than tires inflated with air.

2. Maintain proper air pressure.

It is critical that you take the time to check the air pressure in your forklift tires on a regular basis. Maintaining proper air pressure will help to prevent potential blowouts and ensure that your tires remain properly inflated at all times.

When outdoor temperatures warm up, the air inside your forklift tires could expand. This means that you should release a little air during the summer months, and add some air during the cold winter months to maintain proper air pressure.

3. Always use tires that are the appropriate size.

When it comes to the performance of your forklift, the size of the tires you install on this piece of equipment can make a difference. If you add tires that are too large, the forklift's center of gravity could be thrown out of balance, causing the forklift to tip over while in use.

Consult the manufacturer's recommendations before adding new tires to your forklift so that you ensure you are using tires that are the appropriate size.

Being able to properly care for the tires on your forklift will help to ensure the safety and performance of the forklift over time. Be sure to monitor ground conditions in your warehouse, check the air pressure in your tires regularly, and use tires that are the appropriate size when caring for your forklift tires in the future.
